goodreads-badge-add-plus

SYNOPSIS:

Documentary producer, Pearl Robinson, is a beautiful and smart 40-year-old divorcee but has not had a date for over two years. When she meets Alexandre Chevalier, a young French, Internet success story, she's stunned by his charm, beauty and sophistication, and startled by her strong feelings and desire for a man fifteen years her junior.

His looks, wealth and worldwide triumph with his social media site, HookedUp, means this powerful billionaire can get any woman he chooses, but there is something about Pearl he finds irresistible...

The couple begins a passionate affair and Pearl's body is awakened in ways she never imagined possible. She is consumed by him and his magical touch. But jealous family members, Pearl's insecurities and other external forces are threatening to pull them apart.

This three-book series, Forty Shades of Pearl, Shadows of Pearl and Shimmers of Pearl follow the couple's tumultuous and heart-rending relationship.

Will Pearl's shadowy past and Alexandre's dark secrets meld them together as one, or split them apart once and for all?

EXCERPT:

WHEN PEARL AND ALEXANDRE FIRST MEET.

It’s both a comforting and disconcerting fact that there’s a franchise coffee shop on practically every corner of NYC. You don’t have to go far to feed your addiction. I shuffle through the door, now back in my sneakers – New York City sidewalks do not favor high heels for any period of time. You can tell how long someone has been living in New York by their footwear. Comfort first. Heels are for visitors. Or women from New Jersey.
I stand in line and ponder over the rich choice I am presented with. A wave of guilt washes over me as I mentally tot up the money I’ve spent on superfluous coffee breaks over the years – money needed by charities, for water wells somewhere, for a child’s education. Stop! Life isn’t fair. Yum, Mocha Cookie Delight...coffee blended with mocha sauce, vanilla syrup, chocolaty chips, milk and ice. Or a Vanilla Cappuccino - coffee flavored with vanilla and blended with milk and ice – and fewer calories.

A man’s voice interrupts my chocolaty train of thought.

“So how did you enjoy the conference?” His accent is foreign, his voice deep and melodic.

I look up, feeling now dwarfed in my flat sneakers, petite against his tall, solid frame. The first thing I notice, at eye level, is the definition of his pec muscles underneath his sun-faded, pale blue T-shirt. He’s tanned; I see he has a name tag just like mine from the InterWorld conference, which reads: Alexandre Chevalier. My gaze rises higher and I observe a pair of penetrating peridot-green eyes rimmed with dark lashes, friendly yet intense, looking down at me. His hair is dark, his face unmistakably European - yes, dare I say it, he even looks French, the profile of his nose strong, the jaw defined. He’s so handsome I feel a frisson shoot up my spine. He’s smiling at me. My stomach flips. I’m speechless with surprise.

“Your name tag,” he clarifies. “Were you at that conference around the corner?”

“Yes, I was.” I can’t say any more. I feel like a teenager. My mind is doing acrobatics, trying to figure out why his presence makes no sense at all. This man must have borrowed the tag of the real Alexandre Chevalier. Why?

He’s at the front of the line, now, talking in French to another woman. She looks familiar. I feel an inexplicable pang of jealousy. Absurd! I don’t even know him. Get a grip! But then realize−
“I’ll pay for whatever this lady’s having too,” he tells the woman serving behind the counter, and he pulls out a wad of notes. I notice a stash of hundred dollar bills which he is trying to surreptitiously stuff back into his jeans’ pocket, without drawing attention to himself.

He turns back to me and looks at my name tag. “For Pearl,” he adds, rolling his tongue around the R of Pearl.

My name suddenly sounds beautiful, not like a pseudonym a hooker might use, which is what I was relentlessly teased for in high school.

“Pearl,” he says again. “What a beautiful name. I’ve never heard that before. As a name, I mean.”

“Well, my parents were kind of hippies. Thanks for the compliment, though. I’ll have a....a...um, I’ll have a vanilla cappuccino, please. You really don’t have to do that - buy me my drink, I mean.”

I fumble about in my ‘handbag’ - although it seems more like an overnight bag - and try to locate my wallet. I’m not used to strangers buying me drinks. My fingers can’t seem to find my wallet, anyway. I often fantasize about inventing an inside handbag light that switches on automatically whenever you open it – I’d make millions – they’d be sold at supermarket checkouts nationwide. My bag is pitch dark inside, I can see nothing.

“And what’s your name?” I ask, still not believing that this man before me is Alexandre Chevalier, the twenty-four year-old nerd in the hoodie, as he appeared in the online photo. This Alexandre is sophisticated – looks way older than that. Even though he’s just in T-shirt and jeans, he’s stylish. Very Alpha Male - yet oozing je ne sais quoi. I could describe him as ‘beautiful’ but he is so much more than that. There is an aura surrounding him of power and sexuality yet blended with an unassuming sort of friendliness as if his good looks are accidental somehow.

He laughs. His teeth flash white and are almost, but not quite - perfect. An almost perfect, ever so slightly, crooked smile - disconcertingly sexy. “Very funny,” he replies tapping his long fingers on his Alexandre Chevalier name tag.  “Oh, this is my sister, Sophie.”

The Sophie sounds like Soffy. His accent is disarming me. I think of those classic, 1960’s French films - Alain Delon movies - yes, he does have that air about him - a young Alain Delon - mixed with the raw, untamed sex-appeal of Jean Paul Belmondo in his prime – What was that film? Ah yes, À Bout de Souffle - Breathless was its translation. That’s how I feel now…

      Breathless.

Excerpt & Giveaway: Stormy Surrender by Nicole Andrews Moore

Stormy Surrender (New Hope, #1)

Blurb for Stormy Surrender:

Sometimes the life you planned isn’t the one you get to live.  Sometimes the pain of the past overshadows the future.  And sometimes to start over you have to go back to where it all began.  That’s how it was for Joe Masters.  That’s how he ended up back in New Hope.  And that’s why he was in his thirties and had nothing to show for his life.  He needed a complete overhaul, just like his father’s old house.  Instead of a fast track, he had slowed down and was on a ten year plan.  These days that was more his speed.  And as much as he tried to fight the inevitable, he was learning to accept and surrender.

Martha had weathered her fair share of storms in Vermont, was accustomed to the cold, both the chill in the air and the cold shoulder in her marriage, but after the miscarriage she felt like she would never get warm again.  So she did the research from the laptop while sitting in front of the fireplace.  She knew what she needed when she Googled hope, she just never imagined that it would bring her to New Hope, South Carolina.  She never imagined that her husband would trick her into leaving and never follow.  She never imagined that a southern storm with all its force and fury could be so destructive.  But after the storm, the land is washed clean.  It’s perfect for a fresh start, a clean slate, and a new love.

Stormy Surrender Long Excerpt:

Marti glanced at the hammer, then the tile, shrugged, and started swinging.  The tile made a lovely high pitched sound as it shattered.  The shards flew about the room, ricocheting off the walls and door before landing on the floor.  And because that first swing felt so good, she just kept swinging.  Each time the sledge hammer connected with the tiles, she would think of what her marriage had been like.  She would recall an incident, or a conversation, or any one of a thousand reasons that she should have dumped him, should have ended the marriage years ago.  It felt good.  Maybe even great.  And then she looked down and saw red.  Literally.  There were blood droplets all over.  Before she could even ponder why the room was looking like a crime scene, the wooden handle was ripped from her hands.
“What are you doing?”  He sounded incredulous.  And annoyed.
“You’re a contractor?  What does it look like I’m doing?”  She was upset that he had interrupted her impromptu therapy session.
Shaking his head, Joe grabbed her hand and pulled her out of the room.  “I know demo and that wasn’t it.”
She growled.  “I wasn’t done yet!”
“You, babe?  You are finished.”  She opened her mouth to argue, but he covered it.  With his mouth.
Shocked, she stood there with her eyes wide open.  His mouth was pressed against hers.  And it didn’t feel wrong at all.  Without thinking, she melted into him, wrapped an arm around his neck, and allowed her eyes to slowly flutter shut.  Joe bent slightly and scooped her up and held her against his muscular chest.  His lips pulled back, but his forehead was pressed against hers.  She opened her eyes to find him staring at her.
“Crazy woman,” he muttered to himself as he carried her out the back door of the house.  She couldn’t be certain, but it seems like she would have been carried farther if he hadn’t heard the sound of others talking in the front yard.
Slowly he lowered her to the ground and made sure she had her footing before releasing her.  She wanted to smile up at him, but she hadn’t decided what to make of that moment.  All she could do was look at him and murmur…”Why?”
“I needed to distract you,” he responded with a shrug.  And with that he turned and walked away.

PRE-ORDER Alert!!! Epilogue (The Dark Duet: Book 3) by CJ Roberts

I normally don't pre-order books, but since I finished reading Captive in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark by CJ Roberts I have been OBSESSED and I can't wait for EPILOGUE to get in my Kindle.  In case you are thinking the same thing here is how you can pre-order:

BOOK 3 OF THE DARK DUET
 (blurb from Amazon)

I’m writing this because you begged. You know how I love the begging. In fact, you probably know too many things and know them far too well.

Who am I?

Well, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I was a whore in my youth, a killer since my adolescence, and a monster as a man. I am the man who kidnapped Livvie. I am the man who held her in a dark room for weeks. But, most importantly, I am the man she loves.

She loves me. It’s quite sick, isn’t it?

Of course, there’s more to our story than can be surmised in a few short sentences, but I’m at a loss for justifying my behavior back then. I assume if you’re reading this, I don’t need to make those justifications. You’ve already made your own.

You’re reading this because you want to know about the rest of the story. You want to know what happened that warm summer night in September of 2010, the night I met Livvie at The Paseo. It was the night my life changed all over again.

It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story. The truth is far more…complicated.

Cover Reveal: LET LOVE IN by Melissa Collins

Let Love In by Melissa Collins

Release Date: May 10th

Synopsis:

What would happen if you lost everything?  If the people who were supposed to love you unconditionally were no longer there for you, how would your world change?

That’s exactly what happened to Madeleine Becker when her parents died when she was ten years old.  Ripped from her home and everything that she has ever loved, she is forced to start all over again.  The only way for her to move on is to build walls around her heart and keep everyone at a safe distance. Her logic: she can't get hurt if she doesn't fall in love.

That theory is blown to pieces when she meets Reid Connely during her freshman year at college. He is gorgeous and darkly mysterious. He understands Maddy's pain all too well, but sharing his pain would mean breaking down the walls he put up around his own heart. Conflicted between loving Maddy and hiding his dark past, Reid starts to reevaluate his world.  Maddy's inner strength, snarky personality and breath taking beauty help Reid to make peace with his past.

Together they find out what happens when they let love in.

Snippet of Maddy and Reid’s first encounter:

There was a group playing quarters on the island and another group lining up shots on the breakfast bar – so not my scene.  I just shrugged my shoulders, opened the door, pulled out a bottle of water and, when I turned around to walk back outside, I face-planted into a wall of solid muscle.

“Hand me one?” His voice was smooth and... gruff at the same time.  Red-faced, I turned back around and got him his water, glad for the cool respite that the opened refrigerator door offered.

“Here you go.” I could not peel my eyes away from his mouth as he moved the bottle to his lips.  They were perfect - beautiful and full in a completely masculine way.  I watched, completely fascinated, as his throat moved, downing the water in three or four large gulps. He wiped his mouth with his forearm and I couldn’t help but let my eyes travel up the rest of his arm to his biceps and shoulders – those were the same as his lips – perfect.  Amazingly, gorgeously, utterly, divinely perfect.  Muscled and tanned, his arms were mouthwatering.

My knees wobbled.  My heart thudded.  Thousands of butterflies spread their wings in my belly.

“Thanks…” he stared blankly at my face for a minute and I couldn't help but wondering if he liked what he saw.  He cleared his throat and roused me from my little daydream where the gorgeous boy is mesmerized by the maybe-a-little-above-average looking girl.  That’s when I realized he was asking for my name.

“Maddy.  Sorry, my name’s Maddy." I nearly choked on my tongue to get my freaking name out.

Review of SOUND BITES: A ROCK & ROLL LOVE STORY

SOUND BITES: A ROCK & ROLL LOVE STORY

by Rachel K Burke

Sound Bites: A Rock & Roll Love Story

"Sound Bites is a novel about love, friendship, betrayal, forgiveness, and the power of music to help you find your way" -from Sound Bites: A Rock & Roll Love Story book blurb

Star Rating: 3.5 stars
Heat Rating: Sweet & Innocent

*I was given this book for free from Rachel K Burke in return for an honest review*

Renee Evans is pushing the restart button on her life and has moved back to her hometown of Boston, trying to put herself together again after experiencing heartbreak and betrayal.  Renee moves into an apartment complex and literally runs into her neighbor Dylan Cavallari.  They took instant dislike to each other and went on their separate ways, until music brought them together again.  Could you resist trying to find the source of someone playing a version of your favorite song that you have never heard?  After hearing Dylan sing a version of Jeff Buckley's  “Lover, You Should Have Come Over”  (Here is a link to the YouTube video), their relationship changes.

“When he sang, he sang like he meant it.  He sang with a sense of desperation, like his entire soul had come to life through music.”

Dylan Cavallari is a singer/songwriter who doesn't perform.  EVER.  He has let fear of rejection and crowds keep him away from his dream of being a singer.  Renee changes his life.  What starts out as two people hanging out and bonding over music evolves into an enjoyable ride these characters take to get Dylan on stage, and into Renee's heart where he belongs.

“As he pulled me closer to him, our eyes met for a brief second, and I felt something between us that was hard to put into words.  It was a feeling that we both shared, a feeling where you just want to freeze time and live in that moment forever.  A feeling that maybe life and love really do work out the way they’re meant to.”

One of my favorite themes in a book is friends turning into lovers, I eat that up.  Add a rocker/bad boy and I am instantly hitting 1-Click on Amazon.  I enjoyed this book, I really liked Dylan and how his relationship with Renee evolved, it was fun to read and watch unfold.  This was a book that I picked up planning on reading a chapter or two, then getting back to laundry/chores/kidlet duties, but suddenly the book was over and I almost missed bus pick up.  Rachel's writing style was like eating potato chips, super easy to enjoy and addicting (I had to read just a bit more and more).

I learned something about myself reading this story (besides being WAY out of the loop on my music trivia) I like HEAT in my stories.  Now that doesn't mean every story I read has to turn my cheeks red and hide my Kindle from my kids, I just want a bit of heat.  After reading about two characters discovering that they are in love with each other I want a steamy hot kiss and at least a bit of action, not a quick sentence saying that they were together.

Something else I would have really liked to see was MORE!  I wasn't done with these characters when the book was over.  I wanted to know more about what was going to happen to them and I would have liked to see more with the other characters in the book (especially her best friend Justine).  A POV from Dylan would have been great too (while I am making a wish list), seems like I always want to know what goes on in a guy's head during certain parts of a book.

Sound Bites was a bit predictable and did kind of go into a typical direction. I felt the story was rushed at the ending, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.  Good news: this is a stand-alone book, no cliffhangers!! (for those of us that have no patience waiting for a book)  This was a sweet, quick read that left me wanting to know more about these characters and their friends.  Anytime I keep thinking about a book, that is a sign of a good read.  I enjoyed Rachel's characters and writing style and I will definitely be looking for more from this author!

COVER REVEAL: TROPHY HUSBAND by Lauren Blakely!

Here is the AMAZING cover for Lauren Blakely's TROPHY HUSBAND!!

Publication date: May 21st 2013

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance (the author describes it as mid-20s Sex and the City vibe)

Synopsis:

Sometimes you can't help falling in love, even when you try to do the opposite...Successful fashion blogger McKenna Bell has spent far too long protecting herself after the way her ex-fiancé left her at the altar for a college chick he met the night of his bachelor party. Loving again, trusting again, well, that's just not in the cards. Especially now that her ex is back in town with his new woman, demanding custody of McKenna's favorite creature in the whole world--her dog. No effing way. McKenna's had enough of him, and she decides to even the score by finding her own hot young thing -- a Trophy Husband. Sure, she's only twenty-seven, but doesn't that make it even more fun -- and infuriating to her ex -- to pursue a younger man? When she declares her intentions on her daily blog, her quest quickly skyrockets in popularity, and that's when Chris enters the picture, and he’s got all the assets. He's handsome, successful, and turns her inside out with a kiss to end all kisses, the kind that makes you feel like a shooting star. But loving again could mean losing again, and it's so much easier to focus on getting even, isn't it? Unless, you just can't help falling in love. Which means McKenna will have to come face to face with what she really wants in life -- protecting her heart from hurt, or letting go of her fears of a new beginning.

About the Author:

Lauren Blakely is an unabashed fan of clever jokes, toast, and good guys in novels. Like the heroine in CAUGHT UP IN US, she thinks life should be filled with movie kisses and coffee drinks. Lauren lives in California with her husband and children, and spends her days writing both true stories and make-believe ones.

Review: THREE OF HEARTS by W. Ferraro

THREE OF HEARTS

 by W. Ferraro

  Three of Hearts (Hamden, #1)
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16112650-three-of-hearts
*An ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review

Star Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Heat Rating: be prepared for PINK cheeks!

Three of Hearts, (the first book in the new Hamden series by W. Ferraro), is a light hearted and emotional read about two very real people: Mae and Seth. Mae is looking for a home and place where she can belong. Seth is still getting over the loss of his wife, from 5 years earlier, while trying to raise three children. This is a great love story where the reader gets to fall in love along with Mae, Seth and the children, but also we get to fall in love with the other characters that live in beautiful Hamden.

Mae has just moved into Hamden and is looking for a place to live. She quickly, through the help of Seth’s sister, is able to find and afford the apartment attached to Seth’s home. Sparks fly as soon as these two characters meet and their love affair takes off. The chemistry between Seth and Mae was a bit fast (and HOT) but that doesn’t bother me, sometimes when you find the right person, you want to be with that person. Throughout the story the reader gets a real sense of who Mae is and how truly genuine she is. Mae loves Seth's kids and would do whatever it takes for her loved ones. I really liked her character and really enjoyed getting to know her throughout this book.

Seth, on the other hand, kind of pissed me off. He was loving and so reassuring that Mae was not a replacement through a lot of the book, then made and HUGE mistake when he blows up during the climax of the book. (I won’t spoil it). I really had a hard time getting back into the groove of the book after this episode and will admit I tossed my Kindle on the couch and stormed off for chocolate.

After I got over my temper tantrum about characters not doing what I want in a book, I kept reading and truly enjoyed the way everything resolved. I got a little misty towards the end; ending this story with a long sigh of satisfaction that I got the ending these characters deserved.

Overall, this was a GREAT first book by W. Ferraro. I truly enjoyed reading this book and think that this is definitely something you should put in your “to-be-read” pile.  I am certainly looking forward to reading the next books in this series (I do LOVE a series about a town of characters I enjoy). This is a nice read that leaves you with a light heart and hope that their is always room for love and happily ever after in your life.

Book #2 in the Hamden series THREE OF SPADES  (Dylan's) is out now
Book #3 THREE OF DIAMONDS (Wes's story) will be out soon

Happy Reading!

Review: REAL by Katy Evans

REAL

A fallen boxer.
A woman with a broken dream.
A competition…

He even makes me forget my name. One night was all it took, and I forgot everything and anything except the sexy fighter in the ring who sets my mind ablaze and my body on fire with wanting…

Remington Tate is the strongest, most confusing man I’ve ever met in my life.

He’s the star of the dangerous underground fighting circuit, and I’m drawn to him as I’ve never been drawn to anything in my life. I forget who I am, what I want, with just one look from him. When he’s near, I need to remind myself that I am strong–but he is stronger. And now it’s my job to keep his body working like a perfect machine, his taut muscles primed and ready to break the bones of his next opponents . . .

But the one he’s most threatening to, now, is me.

I want him. I want him without fear. Without reservations.

If only I knew for sure what it is that he wants from me?

My Thoughts:

Star rating: 5 out of 5
Heat rating:  you will be blushing a LOT (I suggest a fan)!

Remington Tate.  I don’t think I have ever crushed on a character in a book more than I did while reading REAL!  I started reading this book on a road trip with my family and found myself sneaking away with my Kindle during "family" time just so I could keep reading.  This book was so addicting, I had to have more and I devoured it in just a few hours.  I am not a reader who re-reads books, but I WILL be re-reading this book very soon.  REAL was so good that immediately after finishing, I contacted Katy Evans begging for more and asking (ok, demanding/pleading) when she was releasing more in this series.  (good news there will be more).

I am totally blown away by this book and her writing.  I read a LOT of books (84 so far this year alone) and hands down REAL was one of, if not the best, books I have read.  Katy Evans is a DEBUT author and knocked this book out of the park.  Well done, my friend, well done.  I have been gushing about this book for weeks to my husband, my friends, Katy (poor thing) and all my outlets in social media.  YES, it is that good (NO, I don't gush like this over every book I read, just a handful in the last year).

Words fail me about how to explain/describe this book...  but trust me, if you can only buy one book this month, buy REAL.  It will not disappoint.  I will try to sum up the book without giving away too much, you need to read it fresh, unspoiled.  (maybe not the best book to read at work/in front of family because it is HOT and will make you blush).

The book starts when Brooke Dumas was dragged to an underground fight by her best friend, Melanie.  She isn’t particularly excited to be there but since she is trying to start off her new career in Sport Rehabilitation she decides to use this as an opportunity to pass out cards and get her name out.  What she wasn’t expecting was Remington Tate.  (drool)

“His face is suddenly before me, illuminated by the lights, and I just stare like an idiot from my place.  My god.”

Brooke falls into the hoopla that orbits Remington “Riptide” Tate and is surrounded by screaming women.   Women are losing their minds over this guy and shouting all kinds of things to get his attention.

“The guy is just too much.  Too much male.  Too much masculinity and pure raw beast.  Put together, he’s just like sex on a stick and every female around me is shouting at the top of her lungs how much she want to lick.”

Suddenly, Remington’s gaze finds hers in the crowd and the spark ignites. (wait until you read about their first actually meeting.... it will melt you!)

“There’s no apology in his stare.  In the way he ignores everyone that shouts his name and stares at me with a look that’s so sexual I almost feel taken right there.”

From the moment Brooke and Remy’s eyes meet the story takes off at a fierce gallop.  Remington Tate, my goodness, I was right there with Brooke, lusting over a book character!  I love how intense and raw Remy comes across, (think silent, hot and brooding), he doesn’t say much but when he does.... it is amazing.  He uses music to help him express feelings and communicates better through the songs he chooses  to play to Brooke than by just talking.  He is so closed off that it is hard to crack his shell but when he finally opens up he makes your heart sigh and pulse race.  **Also, I really enjoyed the information that Katy gives the reader about the fights, the nutrition and basically how his world functions.  It really helped me get into the story and feel what he was going through day to day (well done, Katy)**

"I’m every woman’s adventure, damn you, and I don’t want to be yours.  I want to be your fucking REAL.”

Remington Tate is troubled and has secrets that keep him from getting too close to Brooke and Brooke has her own obstacles to over come (way over simplifying here but no spoilers!).  It was such a great ride watching these two come together, become friends then become more.  The tension was THICK in this book, but so worth it.

"He’s like my Olympics, something that I’m never going to have, but which I crave with my entire being.”

Getting to know these two characters as individuals, then as a unit was a roller coaster full of ups, downs, twists and stomach dropping moments.  My emotions were all over the place; tears, heart palpitations, laughter and lots of heartfelt sighs.  Even two weeks after reading the book I am STILL thinking about how amazing the story is, still wondering what the rest of their story could be (still bugging Katy for MORE).  My poor husband, he might need to start boxing soon since Dwayne Johnson won't answer my tweets ;)

“He wants to be my real, not my adventure.  Even when he will be the realest thing in my life, I know it’s still going to be an adventure.”

REAL is Katy's first novel and I can't wait to read what she comes up with next!!  Ms. Evans is now an automatic buy author for me, and I know you will love this book as much as I did.  Enjoy Remy and Brooke, be sure to drop in on Katy to make sure she knows how much we need more of this adventure that is REAL.
