Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: HIM by Carey Heywood

by:  Carey Heywood

Sarah Miller hasn’t been home in seven years. She thought she could stay away forever. If it wasn’t for her big brother's wedding, that is. Part of her even feels silly for staying away this long. It's not like anyone even knew what happened. Well, except for him.
That guy. The one she compared all others to. The one who set the bar so high no other guy after him could even compete. The one who made her feel like anything was possible. The one she thought she would never be good enough for. The one she spent the last seven years trying to forget.
All she needs to do is make it through the next week without running into him.

HIM was a story about first love, how sweet it can be when you finally fall in love and how devastating it can be when it doesn't work out.  What happens when you meet your first love, the "him" you can't get over, again seven years later and are forced to talk about your past?  Well, when Carey Heywood writes it, you get a  great story!

I picked up HIM one night this week and couldn't put it down (until I dozed off and my Kindle fell on my face) and then I was irritated that I couldn't get back to this story until the next night!  Carey Heywood has an incredible way of drawing you into her writing, making you feel all the incredible feelings that go along with the first time you fall in love and keeping you engaged throughout the entire book.  HIM is told in alternating chapters of present time and flashbacks to the past, and even though that isn't my favorite way to learn about the couple's past, it worked for this story (until the last couple of flashbacks in Colorado which left me confused as to why they were included).

I LOVED Will.  He was the understated, yet sexy character that melts your heart and has you rooting for him the whole way!  Sarah was a good character as well, I just can't believe she left Will (because in my world I like a good argument/fight) for the reasons she did, but when you are young (18) and heartbroken you do silly things you will regret later in life (am I right?).  The characters in HIM were excellent, they all had a purpose in the story and seemed like completely regular and real people you would hang out with, especially Sawyer (we all need a Sawyer in our lives).

HIM ended rather abruptly (I thought) and I am curious to read the next installment in this series, HER, (which comes out later this year) which is written in Will's POV.  I don't normally like to read the same story in a different POV but I will grab HER up quick (because I am crushing on Will) to see if it adds more to what I wanted from HIM; more time getting to know Will and Sarah as adults in love, more getting to know what Will was going through the last seven years and just diving deeper into their "story".

This was my first book by Carey Heywood and I fell in love with her writing style as well as Will.  I am definitely a fan and will be on the lookout for more fabulous things by this author.  HIM was a very sweet read, that won't leave you blushing, but will leave you with a smile and thinking back on your first love (mine was not a Will).  I recommend snatching this up for a quick, sweet, weekend read (and at $0.99 it is a STEAL) that will make your heart happy!
