Meet the William David Maddox:

  • Sentient Healer born during the Dust Bowl to poor Scottish immigrants.
  • Captured and turned Vampire.
  • Looks twenty-nine.
  • Actual age? Old enough to be your father.
  • Soul restored by a Seer.
  • Black sheep of the Sentient world.
  • Distrusted by most, loved by very few.
  • Smirks through it all.

An Interview with William David Maddox:

      1.  What is your ideal woman like?
Preferably she’s not inflatable—though I try not to judge. She can dish it as well as she can take it. She knows herself, she can screw up and fail and she’s okay with that. Brave enough to stand on her own two feet. Doesn’t require frequent rescuing. She’s honest, compassionate. And curvy. God, I’m demanding. But I do love a difficult woman.

2.  What do you like the least about yourself?
I regret that I have to force myself to share the same room with other Sentients. It’s complicated and I know that my aloofness can come off as rude, but I can’t help it. I should probably speak up more.

3.  What are the three most important things in life to you?
First, making Abram proud. He was the Seer that restored my humanity. And while we’re on that subject, my humanity…or my soul, however you want to see it. Last, being loved. Is that incredibly pathetic? Maybe I should have said sex. Can I change that to lots and lots of very manly, filthy sex?

4.  What music is on your playlist right now?
James Taylor, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles. A little Nine Inch Nails, for when I’m feeling emo.

5.  What is your favorite curse/dirty word?
I actually don’t curse much…unless I’m having sex, in which case, I’m a shameless, dirty, very, bad man with a helpless penchant for the word fuck.

6.  How do you seduce and/or excite a woman?
Trying not to grin here. Let’s just say Sentients who are Healers have fascinating abilities to manipulate energy without even touching someone. As for Vampire Sentients who are Healers? I have two words for you: Mind-Fuck.

7.  Where is the most interesting place you’ve ever made love?
That would probably be in a field. Don’t ask. Actually, I think it’s referenced in a book somewhere. ;)

SEERS OF LIGHT (The Light Series)

by: Jennifer DeLucy

A Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:

Lillian Hunt has never truly lived. Always sensing more to the world than is easily perceived, she fears that her instincts are stubborn flights of fancy, or worse, mental instability. But some things-disappearing strangers, tangible dreams, and visits from malevolent creatures-cannot be ignored. Before it's too late, Lillian is ripped from the only existence she's ever known and thrust into a reality that she always suspected, but could scarcely believe. She must learn the truth about who she is, the powerful beings that wish to destroy her, and the two men who would die to protect her. Jennifer DeLucy has created a unique, enchanting tale of destiny and the ageless power of love in her debut novel, Seers of Light. DeLucy's novel charms readers with quirky characters, while sketching a haunting portrait of one woman's journey on the path of the supernaturally gifted. But be prepared. Once you've entered the world of Seers, you will never be the same.

Excerpt:

“So, we avoid close proximity to vampires why?” William asked.
I narrowed my eyes at him.
“This is important, Lily.  Stop glaring at me,” he reprimanded.
“Well, you’re quizzing me like a four year old!” I looked away, watching a blue bird flit from one tree to the next.
“I am not,” William said. “I’m simply trying to drive the point home.  If you remember nothing else, remember this.  Close proximity is bad why?”
I sighed loudly.  “Physical contact allows for enthrallment.”
“That’s right.  In fact, if the vampire is powerful enough, he can gain control without even laying a finger on you.”
“Hm,” I considered.  “So what’s your defect?”
“I’m sorry?”
“You’re close in proximity, William.  Shouldn’t I be all glazed over and catatonic?”
“Only if I wanted you to be.”
“So you could . . .”
“I could.” He nodded, a suggestion of a smile on his face.  “If I chose to.”
“But you wouldn’t dare,” I threatened.
“Of course not,” he said, then smiled in earnest.  “Unless you’re particularly discourteous, in which case it would probably be the only solid method of shutting you up.”
“Fuck . . . you . . .” I said.
He raised an eyebrow.  “Keep dreaming.”
“Oh, you arrogant . . . stupid . . .” I stuttered.  Where were the words?  Where were the God damned words?
He crossed his arms and shook his head.  “Stupid?” he snorted.
“I’m thinking!”  I blurted, and he chuckled at me.
“All right,” I said.  “I’ll save that for a later session after I’ve had time to root through the universe and find a colloquialism vile enough to be applied to you.  For now, let’s talk shop.  If a blood sucking asshole—such as yourself—should come within any kind of close range of me, I’m to do what exactly?”
“Supposing I told you?  Would you try and use it on me?”
“Absolutely.”
“I thought as much.  So we’ll avoid that discussion for a while.”
“Fine.  Then we’re done here,” I snapped.
“If you say so.  Though you’re only shorting yourself, Lily.  There’s a lot more you need to know.”
“No point in rushing things.” Christian broke through the tree line, walking up beside me.  “Is everything all right, Lily?” he asked, giving William the evil eye.
“Fine,” I said, sneering along with him.
“Fantastic,” William grinned.
“Is that right?” Christian took a step closer to my trainer, staring him down.
William shook his head.  “Is this supposed to benefit her, Christian?  Lesson disruption?”
“It sounded like you were finished to me,” Christian said.
“We are.  Let’s go,” I said, giving William one last seething look before turning to leave.
“Colloquialism!” William shouted after us.  “Good word.”
