MADELEINE, ABDUCTED by M.S. Willis: Review, Giveaway and Extras

MADELEINE, ABDUCTED (The Estate #1)

A Dark, Erotic novel

Synopsis:

She was meant to be his destruction…
A pawn played in a perilous game between
father and son…
Yet, her strength was more than either
man could imagine.
As Maddy learns to save herself…
She becomes the one thing that could
set the son free.

Madeleine Clark was raised to become a concert cellist. Sheltered and naïve, she remains hidden behind her music, a protection from the world around her. On the night of her first solo performance, Maddy accepts the admiration of a stranger and finds herself captive in a cruel and twisted power struggle between a sadistic father and his son, Aaron.

Seemingly, dangerous and uncaring, Aaron manages the business operations of his father’s estate. Wanting nothing to do with the slaves kept at the Estate, Aaron refuses to take part in the deeper depravities of his father. Despite his resistance, Aaron’s father ‘gifts’ him with a petite, brunette woman he can’t refuse.

A bond forged in conspiracy and deceit, Aaron struggles to save Maddy by teaching her to survive in the world in which he’d been raised. An unlikely union, Aaron soon learns that great strengths can exist within small packages, while Madeleine learns that love and light can exist in the darkest of places.

Excerpt:

Finding her voice, Maddy spoke out of turn, not thinking about the repercussions her words could elicit.  “I would prefer you call me by my name.”  She peaked up at him through her lashes.  “Maddy, I would prefer that you call me Maddy.”

Aaron stopped with his bare back turned to her, taking several minutes to finally respond, he asked, “What makes you think you are allowed to ask that?  If I wanted, I could call you slave…”  He turned to face her, the contours of chest perfectly shadowed, his strength unquestionable.  “…or whore.”  His swagger was slow as he approached her, a hunter skilled in pursuit.  “Would you prefer those names to ‘Mouse’?”

Sucking her bottom lip between her teeth, Maddy fidgeted with her hands, refusing to look Aaron in the eyes.  She could feel his gaze touching her skin, his perusal of the woman barely half his size.  The heat of his body rolled off of him as he circled her.  It was the feeling of a soft blanket and lustful threat wrapped around her at the same time.  When the deep resonation of his voice occurred again, she cringed, fearing he would strike out at her for the incorrect answer.  “Why do you dislike the name I have given you?”

Continuing to fidget, Maddy trained her eyes on her feet, not daring to look up into the endless green she knew stared down at her.  Gripping her under her chin, Aaron pulled her face up to look at him, his eyes searching hers for the answer to his question.  “You will speak when I tell you.”  Dropping his hand from her face, he took a step back placing distance between them.  “Now answer me.”

Her heart pounded against the walls of her chest, her throat constricted, making it difficult for her to breath.  Fear consumed her as she stood in the shadow of the man who’d taken at least two lives that day.  Barely a whisper, her voice squeaked out the answer to his question. “Because a mouse is a furry little rodent, something detested.”

Aaron stood thoughtful and silent above her.  When he didn’t respond, Maddy quietly added, “I guess it’s better than Xander’s name for me.”

Laughter bellowed out, causing the toned muscles of Aaron’s broad chest to flex and relax before her eyes.  The sound of his amusement so real, it caused her to want to smile in response to seeing a piece of his mask falling away, revealing parts of him not witnessed by many people.  Containing himself, Aaron’s eyes sparkled as he asked, “And what, exactly, is Xander’s name for you?”

A scowl creased the fine skin between her eyes, her mouth pulled into the pout of a sulking child.  “He calls me ‘cricket’…an insect.  It’s odd that you both refer to me as nothing more than a common household pest.”

Aaron’s smile faltered as he looked down upon the beautiful girl who didn’t fully understand her role.  “No, Madeleine, you are not a common household pest…”

Maddy looked up at him, anticipating what he would say next.

For a fleeting second, he looked genuinely amused, but his expression was quickly replaced with indifference and contempt as he stated, “you are lower than even a pest in your role as a slave.”

Star Rating: 4 stars

Heat Rating: Dark, Intense, Gritty HOT!

Madeleine, Abducted is one of those books that you almost feel dirty reading and enjoying, but at the end you don't care what it says about yourself because the story was just that damn good (messed up and very disturbing, but good).  This story won't be for everyone, it was violent, raw, degrading, intense but more than that, it is a powerful story that will  leave you reeling.  M.S. Willis is a fantastic writer, I have read and enjoyed all of her books and I truly believe this woman can create stories that will linger on your mind and in your heart for days (if not weeks) afterwards.  Her talent at story-telling is amazing.

Madeleine, Abducted will not be for everyone.  This book goes beyond a dark, erotic novel and explores depravity, rape and power hungry men mixed with insanity and violence.  There were points that I even cringed (and that takes a lot!) and almost had to stop reading to take a break from the all the turmoil.  I know, it sounds bad but when you get past the dark you see the lightness shining out from this story and you get to experience how one woman can change the people around her and eventually, an entire network.

M.S. Willis proves to me me, again, that she is a master at story-telling; she creates strong characters and describes such brutal circumstances so realistically that you almost forget you are reading a book not watching a movie.   What is most fascinating about Madeleine, Abducted is that it wraps you up so completely in a dark story, but gives you glimpses of moments so beautifully touching that you can't help but become lost in this world craving more lightness.  I found myself stunned, shocked, horrified and hopeful many times during this story. It takes talent to take such a dark tale with characters that are drowning in evil and make the reader root for them, hoping that they will be able to find their way out of all the darkness, and M.S. Willis has this talent.

This is definitely a story you need to read without being spoiled, so I am not going to talk about the characters or plot.  If you can handle dark, erotic novels with a level of violence that are typically found in horror books, then I highly recommend Madeleine, Abducted.  M.S. Willis is an instant buy author for me and with this new series it still proves true; I will read (and truly enjoy) anything she writes.  Go 1-click Maddy and see what really happens behind the doors at The Estate.

SEDUCTIVE SECRECY by Marni Mann: Review & Giveaway

SEDUCTIVE SECRECY (Shadows #2)

An Erotic Contemporary Romance

Release Date: October 24, 2013

Synopsis:

“We were two broken souls who had found each other in a world of shadows. We were held together by a connection of secrets, dark and fearful and reluctant to leave. Their depth was seductive and overwhelming, an endless ocean of black that threatened to cover the brilliance we kept reaching for with each other.”

With her art career flourishing and the mansion predators no longer a threat, Charlie is creating a new life. Her desires have changed, and she has a chance at a healthy, loving relationship with Cameron—if they can bury the memories and doubts that plague them.

Can they overcome the destruction of their clouded pasts, or will the revelation of more painful, shocking secrets pull them back into the shadows?

**This book is for mature audiences. It contains explicit language and sexual content.

Excerpt:

I lifted my arm out of the comforter and placed my fingers on top of his. I couldn’t stop the guilt that washed through me. I had questioned Cameron’s feelings. I had thought that maybe he still wished I was wearing my mask, or maybe that he wanted me to put one back on. And now I knew none of that was true.

“I need to ask you something,” I said, squeezing his hand, “and I need you to be completely honest with me when you answer.”

He nodded. “Always.”

Now I was the one who was holding on. “You’re not going to lose interest now that you’ve—”

“Never,” he said interrupting me.

“But you’ve gotten what you wanted now. What else is there?”

“That’s where you’re wrong, Charlie. You haven’t given me everything that I want.”

“I haven’t?” I couldn’t imagine what might have been missing.

He exhaled through his nose and shook his head. Then he lifted his hand and rubbed it over my cheek. The intensity in his touch hadn’t diminished at all. It was even more severe than before. But behind all that raw emotion was a softness that was pushing its way to the surface. “I’m not talking about your body.” His thumb went to my lip, dragging it out from my teeth. “It’s true that I’m as insatiable as you, and that no matter how many times I have you, it isn’t enough. I want you again…and again. And every time, you give me that.” I didn’t understand what else there was. “What you haven’t given me all of is…your love.”

Star Rating: 4.5 stars!

Heat Rating:  HOT HOT!

*This is NOT a stand-alone book!  If you haven't read Seductive Shadows (Shadows #1), please do so before reading this review or the book, you really don't wan't to spoil anything about this series!*

Marni Mann can write one hot, erotic, sensual book that dives into the darker side of things, creating a story that is so beautifully written that you are caught up in its whirlwind and taken for one hell of a ride!

Seductive Secrecy, took my breath away!  I gobbled it up in one night and stayed up much later wishing I had more time with Charlie and Cameron.  Seductive Shadows (book 1) was such a crazy-amazing book that took me on such an emotional journey that I was fearful of reading the sequel.  I should have NEVER doubted Ms. Mann, she knows what she is doing and delivered one of the best sequels I have read in a long time!

Seductive Secrecy lets us get to know Charlie and Cameron.  We get to get into their lives and see how they are making it as a couple and how they are dealing with life after the "mansion".  I LOVED getting into Charlie's art more, seeing how she created and dealt with clients, it was great to see her gaining success in the art world after such a dark past.   Cameron is still a bit of a mystery but we did get to see into his other relationships more during Seductive Secrecy, however, I am still holding out hope that we get one more book in this series that really dives into Cameron.  Charlie and Cameron are two characters that I have come to love and I would love to continue reading about (I would not say no to a book about Dallas either)

Ugh! (no spoilers) I can't say more but WOW, your heart is going to shatter with some of the twists and surprising revelations in this book!  Honestly, there was one point in the book that I gasped out loud and my heart stopped.  Marni Mann, definitely has a way of getting you invested in her characters, you feel right along with them, their highs and the lows and makes you understand that sometimes you have to survive the dark to learn how to savor the light.

I HIGHLY recommend this series.  It is dark, gritty, raw and just plain amazing.  Your heart will be taken on quite the ride!  Seductive Secrecy, surpassed my expectations (and they were high) and still managed to shock me with its twists and turns.  Marni Mann is a writer that I will automatically buy, her words resonate and her stories will linger on your mind (and in your heart).   Go grab Seductive Secrecy (and Seductive Shadows if you haven't read that either) get comfy and be prepared to get lost in this story about Charlie and Cameron!

Excerpt:

I nod, and she makes her way down the hall that I now see is lined with photographs. My stomach tightens, but I figure that I need to get this over with if I’m going to be staying here. I walk towards them, stopping at the first picture. I’m guessing it’s from the day they first met, the time she told me about, because she’s giving him a playful frown while he’s grinning at her like he’s already half in love with her, which, to be honest, he probably was. I feel a slight twinge as I take in the picture, knowing that at that moment he had no idea how short of a life he was going to have with her. Hell, he probably wouldn’t have even cared, as long as he had her while he could. Shaking the thought out of my head, I browse each one. There are candid shots of them mixed throughout professional ones from events such as her graduation, Sierra and Jeremy’s wedding, and what looks like an engagement party. As I pass each picture, it’s becoming more real to me that she had a whole separate life before we reconnected. Strangely, I’m not bothered by it, seeing how happy she looks in these pictures, even though it was with another man and not me. I’ll admit that I was a little worried when she told me about their fighting, but looking at these pictures? I know Ty made her a happy woman, and I’m grateful that she had that while she could. Do I wish it had been me? Fuck yes, but what can you do? Coming to the last picture, I’m breathless as the image of Alexa in a wedding dress enters my vision. I’m moving in for closer inspection when she comes out of her room, stopping when she catches me. Her hand covers her mouth as she closes her eyes for a split second. She swallows hard before walking towards me. She reaches out her hand as if to touch my arm before pulling it back, obviously thinking better of it. “Jace, I… This is probably awkward, I’m sorry. I just… I wasn’t expecting you, and I don’t…” She trails off as she stares at the wall, glancing at the picture before turning her eyes towards the floor.

I'm a twenty six year old book junkie who is also obsessed with sports. Bengals, Buckeyes, Reds are my teams! I work for the government during the day, hang out with Air National Guard on the weekends, and am married to a guy 15 inches taller than me. We're quite the pair! We currently live right outside of Dayton, OH with our two cats. I've been reading since I was a kid. My mom was a librarian, so it was a given. Heck, she even made sure we watched Wishbone instead of the Smurfs. In 2011 when I graduated from college, my mom bought me a Nook, and then in the summer of 2012 I found this amazing site called Goodreads. I was introduced to so many amazing indie/self-published authors. After reading almost 400 books that year, my husband gave me the push to finally sit down and write my own. It was a rocky start, but over time the words started flowing and I couldn't get Jace and Lexi out of my head. If I’m not writing or looking through tons of photos of hot men, all in the name of research, then you can probably find me curled up with my Kindle, ignoring the rest of the world. I love my sports almost as much as I love my books. My other obsessions include red wine, hot men, country music, and all things Grace Potter. Book Trailer:

Excerpt:

How the band gets its name

Dee pulled out another notebook from his bag and tossed it to me. "Write the lyrics."

I look at the empty notebook and Dee's tattered one that's full of ideas and marks and don't know where to start. I try not to think about it too much as I grab a pen and write out the music best I can. It's already there, I just have to translate it into something coherent. But, when it comes to the words, I see what Dee's written and it could be a song for me. No wonder he wants me to change it. He wants the song to be from me, instead. My side of the story.

The couch dipped next to me and Dee stuck his head over my shoulder to see what I'm writing. I pressed the notebook into my chest and he tried to snatch it away.

"Hey," I cried. "I like you and all Dee, but stop trying to feel me up."

His lips curved into a sly smile and he knew that I was onto him and for once I don't argue.

"What are we gunna call ourselves?" Frank asked. Before Chris could open his mouth he added, "No ideas accepted form Chris."

"Why not?” he grumbled.

"We're not into Morrissey," Dee laughed.

"I think Empty Hands is a good name for an indie band," I said kindly.

"Thanks, Zoe," Chris smiled and tapped his bottle against mine.

"We're not a pansy mopey indie band," Frank said and beat on his chest. "I want to beat the shit outta those skins, for one. I'm too manly to get in touch with my feminine side."

Dee's watching me with a frown and I realize I've been running a finger along the scar on my arm.

"Tattoo," he said, his eyes meeting mine.

"What?" I jumped and tucked my hands under my legs.

"Tattoo," he said again and I could almost see the light bulb over his head. "The Devil's Tattoo."

As soon as he says it, I knew he wanted to name the band after me. I can't help but wonder who the devil is meant to be. The devil scarred my arm and I covered it with a tattoo.

"Dee," I began to scold him.

"Bloody LOVE IT," Frank shouted, on his feet.

"It's not like that, Zoe," Dee whispered in my ear. "You're my phoenix from the ashes. You're my version of the devil, babe."It sounded like he was declaring his love for me and in a way he was, but not like that. Dee's my brother. Dee's my family.

I smiled at him. "The Devil's Tattoo."

"All in favor?" Dee asked, but it's already been decided.

"Hell yeah!" everyone shouted, and it's done.
