HER (Him #2)

A Contemporary Romance

Release Date: October 26, 2013

You know her side of the story, now learn his.

"It was useless. I felt branded beneath my skin by a girl who left without even saying goodbye."

When Will Price was assigned a partner for a sixth grade class project he had no idea she would become his best friend. After years of friendship, she eventually became so much more.  Then, one day she left with no explanation.

Will’s life shattered right before his eyes and he was left alone to pick up the pieces.  Floundering without her, Will must figure out a way to carry on, to find a way to exist without her.

Seven years later, a chance encounter leaves him desperate to get her back. He has one week to make her his again.  Not everyone gets a second chance with the love of their life and Will is determined to never lose her again.

Dream cast:

Will = Chris Pine

Sarah = Leighton Meester

Star Rating: 3.5

Heat Rating: SIZZLING!

I really wanted Him to be the best of both worlds in one book and I will admit my expectations were pretty high.  I wanted to be in Will's head and really get into what he was thinking during all the agonizing/amazing moments from Her AND I wanted the story to go farther and really give me that great finish to a series (tall order, I know). Her delivered some of what I expected but left me wanting more "new" and less "same". I may be the type of reader that can't really get lost in a story I have read before just from a new POV because at times I found myself skimming pages because I knew what was going to happen.  (I am not the type to re-read stories either)

Carey Heywood has a delightful way of telling a story and it is really easy to sit down and finish her books in one sitting.  The pacing for Her felt a bit fast, so if you hadn't read Him, you might be left confused in places.  I really wanted to know more about Will's background and we got a bit more but not what I was hoping to learn.  I really wanted to understand his relationship with his mother better and I would have liked to spend more time on how he and Sarah's brother became so close.  I felt like I really got to know Sarah in Him, and wanted the same for Will in Her.

Overall, this was a good story, I liked that this time around it was told in chronological order instead of jumping back in forth in time.  I enjoyed getting to see inside Will's head during that "beginning" time back when they were in high school and uncover his side of things (emotions and thoughts).  My thought when finishing the book was I wanted more new material, I wanted to get that conclusion I didn't get with Him and I am left still waiting.  I really hope that Carey Heywood continues this series with a  spin-off featuring Sawyer (dying to know more about her) and we can get more from Will and Sarah that way too.

I am a fan of Carey Heywood and will continue to gobble up her stories in the future.  If you loved Him and are dying to get your hands on more Will than Her is a great way to spend an evening re-visiting a favorite story with characters you can't help but love.  And if you haven't read Him, now you can pick whose head you want to be in Will's in Her or Sarah's in Him.
