Author Interview:

1.  What kind of snack/drink is a MUST for you when writing?
Hello Michelle. It’s a pleasure to be with you and your readers.  In the morning, I drink coffee. I tend not to snack while writing but I’ve been known to drink alcohol, when writing love scenes …

2.  What made you start writing?
I’ve always enjoyed writing but for me, completing my first novel and having it published was the result of a challenge I’d made to myself. I wanted to discover if I could do it.

3. What is your biggest inspiration source (where do you get your ideas)
Many of my ideas come from literature, or art and music. The city of Florence has provided a lot of inspiration.

Sometimes I’m inspired by the terribly rude habit of eavesdropping. You don’t want to sit next to me on an airplane or train, or I’ll try to piece together your life story.

4.  Describe your perfect writing space? and where do you actually write?
I write at my desk at home. But what’s essential is quiet – I need quiet in order to write.

5.  Is writing your full time job? If not, what else do you do?
I’m fortunate that I’m able to write full time.

6.  What is one surprising fact about you, that not too many people know?
Readers can probably guess that I dislike crowds and being in large groups of people.  I also dislike small, enclosed spaces.

7.  What are you writing now?
Thank you for asking. I’m writing the first book in a new series. The novel will be entitled “The Raven” and it’s a paranormal love story, set in Florence. You can read the cover copy and find out more about it here:http://www.sylvainreynard.com/2013/11/my-next-novel-revealed.html

8.  Who is your current favorite book character?
I’ve always admired Superman.

9. What was the last book you read that gave you a "book hangover?"
When I’m writing I don’t have a lot of time to read. But I can recall feeling very unsettled by “Never Let Me Go,” by Kazuo Ishiguro.  The novel is dystopian and it’s supposed to be unsettling. But it also caused me to spend a lot of time thinking about our society, some of the disturbing trends in it, and how we can combat those trends.

Meet the Author:

I'm interested in the way literature can help us explore aspects of the human condition - particularly suffering, sex, love, faith, and redemption. My favourite stories are those in which a character takes a journey, either a physical journey to a new and exciting place, or a personal journey in which he or she learns something about himself/herself.

I'm also interested in how aesthetic elements such as art, architecture, and music can be used to tell a story or to illuminate the traits of a particular character. In my writing, I combine all of these elements with the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the transformative power of goodness.

I try to use my platform as an author to raise awareness about the following charities: Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep Foundation, WorldVision, Alex's Lemonade Stand, and Covenant House. For more information, see my Twitter account.
