But between that and the public’s continuing fascination with her “are they or aren’t they” relationship with Jack, Grace begins to wonder if anyone’s really interested in her because of her upcoming TV series, or if it’s all speculation about the size of her ass and her bedroom partner.

Meanwhile, Jack is voted the Sexiest Man Alive and becomes a little too enamored with the party-hard lifestyle. Grace vows to give him the space he needs to find himself, but then he begins to spiral down from lovable Brit to Hollywood brat. People are talking, but are Jack and Grace? Her career is on the rise, and his continues into the stratosphere, but will she be able to catch him if he falls? Will they ever be able to just be a couple who can hold hands when they walk down the street?

Star Rating: 4 stars

Heat Rating: HOT!

**If you haven't read The Unidentified Redhead or The Redhead Revealed I HIGHLY suggest you read them first so you understand the relationships, back stories and inside jokes**

I can be honest with you guys, right?  I almost didn't read this book after I finished The Redhead Revealed.  I really enjoyed The Unidentified Redhead and was left bored after I skimmed most of my way through book #2  and wanted to slap Grace. I was afraid that The Redhead Plays Her Hand would be another let down, but I was mildly curious how things would change for Jack and Grace once they were both in L.A, so I picked it up and dove right in.   I am REALLY glad I kept up with series and I am going to admit it here that The Redhead Plays Her Hand was (in my opinion) the best book of the series!  (you have to get through the first two books I think to enjoy this installment).  Grace redeemed herself completely in my eyes and started (finally) acting her age while Jack was still my amazing Brit I fell for in book one, but let Hollywood shake his foundation.

The Redhead Plays Her Hand wasn't a light-hearted rom-com and I loved that.  Grace and Jack were two people (with flaws) trying to find their balance in this new relationship and add to that the craze of being a Hollywood celebrity (it can't be sunshine and rainbows all the time), so we really get to see new sides to these two characters emerge.  I really enjoyed that the characters in this book seemed to grow (and unravel at times) and we weren't just reading about two people having sex all day (though that has its perks too) we got a story with some depth to it.  Alice Clayton takes on a couple of really intriguing and interesting topics in this book and I liked seeing the deeper and more "real" side to these two beloved characters.  (You still get your silly and schmaltz, no worries).

Alice Clayton's writing is so easy to read and regardless of the story, her books go down super easy.  I read The Redhead Plays Her Hand in a few hours and was surprised it was all over.  The pacing was great and I never had that "I need a break" from this crazy ride moment.  In fact, I actually wanted more at the end (no spoilers) with Jack and his situation, but it is what it is and it was a great close to a series.  It is always hard to let go of characters that have been with us for a while and I am glad I stuck with them!  Is this the end for Jack and Grace?  I have no clue, but if this truly was the last of the series, then it ended brilliantly and I will admit to misting up a wee bit at the end.

If you fell in love with Jack and his Redhead in the previous books, then this is an installment that you must read.  It takes their relationship to a new level and really tests their "stick-with-it-ness", letting the reader see a more serious side to this romantic tale.  If you love schmaltz, witty banter, crazy pet names and a some heart-tugging moments, then this is a definite 1-click!

Meet the Author:

Novelist Alice Clayton makes her home in St. Louis where she enjoys gardening but not weeding, baking but not cleaning up after, and is trying desperately to get her long-time boyfriend to make her an honest woman--and please buy her a Bernese Mountain dog.
After working for years in the cosmetics industry as a makeup artist, esthetician, and educator, Alice picked up a pen (read laptop) for the first time at 33 to begin a new career: author. Having never written anything longer than a grocery list, she soon found writing to be the creative outlet she'd been missing since walking away from the theater 10 years before.
She has a great time combining her love of storytelling with a sense of silly, and she was shocked and awed to be nominated for a Goodreads Author award in 2010 for her debut novels, the first two installments of The Redhead Series--The Unidentified Redhead and The Redhead Revealed. Her latest novel Wallbanger is a return to her trademark comedic erotica, or funny smut, that Alice has become known for.
Additionally, Alice loves spending time with her besties on Not Your Mother's Podcast (check them out on iTunes) and has recently partnered with actor Greg Grunberg, blogger Brittany Gibbons, and actress Keili Lefkovitz on a new travel show that will begin filming in January.
Alice enjoys pickles, Bloody Marys, eight hours of sleep and a good pounding.
