DASH OF PERIL (Love Undercover #4)
by Lori Foster
A no-nonsense female cop reluctantly teams up with the one man who makes her lose control in a deliciously sensual new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster...
To bring down a sleazy abduction ring, Lieutenant Margaret “Margo” Peterson has set herself up as bait. But recruiting Dashiel Riske as her unofficial partner is a whole other kind of danger. Dash is six feet four inches of laid-back masculine charm, a man who loves life—and women—to the limit. Until Margo is threatened, and he reveals a dark side that may just match her own….
Beneath Margo’s tough façade is a slow-burning sexiness that drives Dash crazy. The only way to finish this case is to work together side by side…skin to skin. And as their mission takes a lethal turn, he’ll have to prove he’s all the man she needs—in all the ways that matter….
While Dash of Peril was not my first Lori Foster book, it was my first time reading the Undercover Love series. Dash of Peril can be read as a stand alone book, like I read it, but I really think to understand all the dimensions to this story and the secondary characters, this is a series that should be read from start to finish. While I was able to dive in to Dash and Margo's story and enjoy myself, I felt like I missed out on a lot of background information that was covered in previous books and if I had read this series in order it might have solved some of issues I had with this story. (My .02)
Dash of Peril is a good contemporary romance with a side of suspense and action. I have read Lori Foster in the past so I knew I was going to get a great, fast paced story with HOT characters but what was surprising was the interesting and complex story that unfolded. Lori Foster is great at creating characters that have depth and layers, they are never what you assume they are going to be like and I love the puzzle they create. Margo and Dash were great together and I really enjoyed their banter and the dance they had before they succumbed to all the tension (and their was a LOT of delicious and HOT tension).
Margo was a woman in control, she was tough, independent and scared to let anyone in and reveal that she wasn't a tough as nails cop all the time. She was very interesting to read and very fun to watch struggle with her desires for Dash and her need to be a the hard-nosed cop. Dash was just a slice of delicious and while I wish I knew more about him I LOVED his character. You can tell there was a past between him and Margo before this book, so I will definitely be going back to "meet" him previous books. If every woman had a Dash in her life, we would all be deliriously happy!
Dash of Peril was a great mix of romance and intrigue, you get steamy sex, nail biting action and a complex story that unfolds and leaves you surprised at the fall out! Lori Foster is definitely an author I enjoy and I will be going back to catch up on this series before the next installment with Cannon comes out!
If you are a fan of romantic suspense, Lori Foster or just a really great story that will whisk you away, then Dash of Peril (or the Undercover Love series) is definitely worth 1-clicking today!
