THE APPLETON HOUSE by Nicole Castro: Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

Master carpenter Ashe Whitaker is excited to work on the historic bed and breakfast, The Appleton House, but the owner’s daughter proves to be a distraction. Finding out that fun-loving Perry is engaged is only a minor set-back. He’s been an idiot fiancĂ© before and knows just what seeds of doubt to plant in order to get her into his bed. Ashe knows Perry wants him and exposes her sinfully shameless side. But Ashe’s forever-a-bachelor reputation is in jeopardy when Perry threatens to nail down his heart instead of being just another notch in his tool belt.

“Want me to help?” Perry asked as I put the cases of tiles into the bed of my truck.
“They’re heavy as shit, so no.”
“You don’t have to lift three boxes at a time, ya know.”
I shoved the last one in and shut the tailgate. I narrowed the space between us and her spine stiffened. “Ya know, I know.”
Her chest heaved in and out and her cheeks became pinker.
I furrowed my brow, a smile pulling at my lips. “Wow.”
“What?” She walked to the passenger door. She pulled on the handle but it was still locked. I followed her, pushed the button on my fob and opened it.
She was silent on our way back to the house- just stared out the window with her arms folded over her chest.
“You’re not sick, are you?”
“No, I just... maybe I need something to eat.”
“That’s a good sign.” And complete bullshit. I flustered her. I made her heart panic. I bet I did some other physical things too.
I carried the cases up the stairs, Perry insisting on carrying one because she “wasn’t a delicate flower”. I set them on a tarp I had laid out and took the single box from Perry.
“You know how else I know that he’s not right for you?” It was Friday and I felt like pressing my luck. I stood up from my crouched position. “This.”
I stepped closer to her, making her press her back against a wall. I put my elbow next to her head and my other hand on her hip.
She shut her eyes and gasped. “What are you doing?”
I grabbed her hand and put it over her heart. “Your heart is beating like a hummingbird’s, Perry. And it’s not because you are afraid of me. You would run if you were afraid of me.”
She opened her eyes, a gray storm of emotions. “Please don’t. I can’t.”
“I haven’t done anything.” I stared at her lips and she licked them unthinkingly. “But you already have, haven’t you? I’m part of the reason you drank so much last night.”
She turned her head to the side, and looked toward the ceiling. “No. I-”
I put my lips to her ear. “Liar.”
“Oh god.” She wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me. Hard. She demanded that I respond to her and I’m not sure I could have stopped her. I gave her what she wanted and kissed her with my pent up passion. When I grabbed her thigh and hooked it around my hip, she lifted the other so she could straddle me. I pushed her hard against the wall with my hips, her dress sliding further and further upward. She moaned when I ground my hard-on into the soft apex of her legs.
“I’ll take you right here. Right now.” I kissed my way down her neck while squeezing one of her full breasts.
“I can’t... you know I can’t,” she murmured.
“Won’t. Not can’t.”

The Appleton House is a sexy read written in the male POV (which I love).  Nicole Castro does a great job telling the story through Ashe's eyes and it is both funny and raunchy (again, I love this).  I knew going in this was a short story and would be a quick read, but I still wanted more.  Nicole does a great job getting you right into the story and keeping the pace going quick so you never feel like you are skipping chapters.  What I was missing was the slow build ups and getting to better understand the characters.

While I am not a huge fan of the some of the story line from The Appleton House, I was able to enjoy this story and get an enjoyable story.  Nicole Castro does a great job hooking you in right away and then keeping you engaged until the end.

If you are in the mood for a quick read, that is HOT and told from a male POV then The Appleton House is the story for you!

Nicole was born and raised in southeast Michigan in the 1900s. Nicole writes contemporary romance novellas and historical romance novels. She is known for her "real talk" in her writing, evoking emotion with thoughts people really have. No purple prose here, but you'll fall in love with the characters just the same. Nicole just released her seventh book, THE DISINTEGRATED HOUSE, Book 2 of the House collection. House books 3, 4 and 5 are in the progress/planning stages.
