MIDNIGHT (A McKenna Chronicle) by Elizabeth Miller: Review, Excerpt & Giveaway

MIDNIGHT (a McKenna Chronicle)

There are many defining moments in life. I’ve had my fair share. One thing is certain, none of them compare to the life altering instant his piercing blue eyes capture mine. In one second life as I know it is over and the next chapter begins…

One second. It alters journalist, Charlise "Charlie" Carter’s course. When asked to work on a Republican candidate's campaign, she’s unprepared for the intense reaction she has toward the young, handsome presidential hopeful, Colin McKenna.

Unable to resist Charlie’s allure, McKenna succumbs to his desire and they find themselves exploring a passionate, physical relationship that is soon tested by not only their own secrets, but his political advisers.

Traveling the country in pursuit of the presidential nomination, his career aspirations and complications from the past collide with their desire to be together, threatening to tear them apart forever. Midnight tells a compelling story of burgeoning trust, intense passion and secrets that could cause it all to unravel in a heartbeat.

Midnight is an adult contemporary romance, due to strong language and sexual content this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

“Hands above your head,” I command darkly.  His eyes round, but he complies. Tying his wrists first together and then to the headboard, I try to hold back my smile.  My breasts brush lightly against his face as I work, his nose skimming my cleavage as I finish securing him to the post. “There,” I sit back to enjoy my handy work, he’s so beyond sexy splayed out before me.  “Now you’re mine to do with what I want and I want you,” I lean in to brush my lips against his, “naked,” one more light kiss, “hard,” I graze my lips and teeth along his cheek and neck, “in my mouth,” his breath comes out in a rush, “and deep inside me.” My lips hover over his and he groans, lifting his head to capture my mouth, but I move away quickly before he makes contact.  Lifting my finger to the soft press of his lips I shush him, his tongue touching the tip of my finger, teeth nipping it.  His need mirrors my own, but we have just begun.
“Don’t move.” I have never seen his eyes quite like they are at this moment, a searing, blazing inferno.  I’m sitting on his burgeoning erection and his eyes close when my hips grind into him, loving the hard bulge pressing against my sex.  I’m so hungry for all things Colin I can barely contain my own need.
“Look at me,” I whisper, when he does I continue.  “You make me feel sexy, like anything I do makes you want me, makes you hard,” his erection twitches under me, confirming the truth to the statement and I smile, comforted by the response of his body.  Reaching up I caress his cheek and he leans into me, nuzzling while his eyes darken even deeper.
“Untie me Charlie,” his voice is gruff and I can hear the need hang heavily in the room. “I’ll show you how fucking sexy you are.” He pulls against the restraint and I shake my head.
“No, I’m doing this for you.  So you know how I feel about you and how much I want you.  I need you to know how powerful you make me.  I want you to watch and feel and listen. I love your skin, smooth and hot beneath me,” I say breathlessly.  My fingers find and play with his nipples.  Leaning in I flick one with the tip of my tongue, taking him into my mouth, gripping with my teeth, pulling and tugging playfully. His chest bows from the bed, restrained hands pulling to break free, but the knot holds as does my mouth.
The rumble in his chest is loud to my ears and I smile, spurred on by his reaction.  I continue on my path nipping and licking as I go, my hands following my mouth, rubbing into his heated skin.  Sitting up when my mouth reaches the button of his jeans so I can look at him and he can look at me, I begin rubbing him through his jeans.  The hard strain of him pushes and twitches against my hand and I know he’s ready - ready for my mouth.
“Charlie, for the love of God,” he breathes out deeply, jaw clenching.

Feeling an ounce of remorse for his suffering I unzip his jeans.  Moving off of him completely he lifts his hips as I slide both his pants and boxer briefs down his long muscular legs, his erection springing free, begging for relief.  Starting again in the same position I began the journey, I crawl up his legs. Locking onto his eyes - they’re smoking, deep, a blurred midnight and I’m drawn into him.  Just as I find peace in the hour of midnight, I have that with Colin.  He’s my wish fulfilled for a better tomorrow, my happily ever after.  The realization is staggering and I pause for a minute to work through the enormity of these feelings.  I recognize immediately though, it’s the truth and I need to show him how much he means to me.

When Midnight came into my inbox I will admit I was not tempted to read a book about a political campaign and then I read the excerpt and changed my mind!  I am very glad I decided to read Midnight, it was an addicting, hot and very fascinating story!  Elizabeth Miller has created a great start to a new series about Colin and Charlie and even though there are political elements to the story, Midnight really is a story about falling in love and learning to trust again.

Elizabeth Miller is an author that can build up tension and leave the reader sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for these two characters to finally give in to the sparks.  I really loved both Charlie and Colin they were great characters alone and magnificent together (which I can't say a lot).   The characters are both independent and recovering from past baggage, but that doesn't make them bitter, it makes the fall that much sweeter!  Elizabeth Miller has created a fascinating look into a man running for the presidential office, who also happens to meet a woman he can't let go of along the way.  The story is interesting, the heat is scorching and all the characters are engaging and just when you think you know how things are playing out you get a twist that will change everything (or will it?).  I can't wait to get more from Elizabeth Miller!

If you are in the mood for an adult contemporary romance that will give you heat, a great story and an interesting setting then Midnight is definitely a great book to pick up and read this weekend!  Elizabeth Miller has my attention and I will be on the look out for the next book in this series (can that be soon please?) and any future books she writes!

Barnes & Noble:

I’m a long time book junkie, reading for as long as I can remember.  When I was young, my parents would take away my book as punishment for breaking the rules.  Grounding didn’t hurt so much, but taking away my book was torture! I work for a Healthcare system, in Human Resources as a Labor Relations Rep.  Always an interesting day in this field!  I’m married to a wonderful, very sarcastic and supportive husband.  We have two boys, 3 & 5, and two kitties, living in Rochester, MI.
I graduated with an English Literature degree and always dreamed of writing, but life took over for a while and the passion was lost for a few years.  After falling for so many book boyfriends I decided to put my fantasy in print and began writing Midnight in 2013 - a dream come true when I published earlier this year.
If I’m not writing, I’m reading or painting abstracts or playing Wii with my boys.  My other favorites are Halloween, Henry Cavill and BBQing with friends.
